Where do I start to become a model or commercial actress?

How to become a child/teenage actress?

  • Hi, well I am 13 years old and I want to become a famous actress. Ok, well I will first tell you a bit about myself: I'm a girl, 13 years old, I am 172cm tall (5'7") my mum is the same height as me and my dad is 6'1" so I am probably going to grow up to be about 5'10" once I am an adult. I am Definitely not obese, yet not too skinny either. My BMI is 19.6 and I weigh about 55-58kgs. People have told me I have a big, dramatic, bubbly personality and I have been told almost too often that I should get into drama. I would absolutely love to start doing drama classes, but that means I would have to drop either choir, piano or basketball, and I am DEFINITELY not dropping basketball. I am not a singer but I have to do choir in order to play piano with my school. I need help deciding on what drama org. I should do, and how exactly to become a serious actress. I would also love to be a model, any help with that also? Thanks!! Xxxxx

First, you need your parents on board to support you in your acting. You will not get anywhere if your parents are not willing to represent you on your behalf. If your parents say no, then you will have to wait until you are 18. Cause no one will hire a minor without their parents. Secondly, do not drop choir or piano. Those will come in handy and you can put those under "Special skills" on your acting resume. Next, join your schools drama club, and audition for school plays. Your school doesn't have a drama program? Fine. The arts are rarely funded so you should look into joining a community theatre. They sometimes have acting classes and may even give you the edge when it comes to auditioning for acting roles in theatre. You cannot and will not be able to get an agent right now. The person who said that in their answer knows nothing about how the business works. Being a child actress is highly competitive! There isn't much work for kids and when there is you will be fighting to get that role. Lastly, before you decide on doing acting do some research on the business of acting. It's highly competitive and even with your "bubbly" and "dramatic" personality does not guarantee you will get a role and doors will magically open. It's a tough business that is filled with rejection. Edit: As for the modeling it is just as competitive. Modeling can open doors in terms of connections, but your either focused on one or the other. Modeling is all about your look and what you can do in those photo's. Have you ever seen "America's next top model"? That show is somewhat accurate on the hardships models actually go through. My sister was a model at one point. She was getting great offers, but left cause it just wasn't for her. At 13 your still growing and you will probably make it to your desired height. It's hard to tell. Good Luck! As I said decide on one or the other cause you have alot on your plate for a 13 year old: Basketball, choir, piano, acting AND modeling. When will you have time to focus on acting seriously?

Well you should find a drama class nearby, and if you genuinely have talent then you should find an agent who will find auditions for you to go to, and from then on you just go to them and try your best. If you're good enough then you'll get something eventually. Just google 'casting agents in _______' for wherever you live and you should find one somewhere. Also, have a back up plan, if you don't become an actress (which is likely, as it is A LOT about getting a lucky break) then you can't become crushed that you didn't make it, thousands of people try to get their break every year, and barely any make it at all, so don't join a casting agency expecting to be in a film in 3 months. Good luck! Edit: ROAR, I have had an agent since I was 9, and have had numerous radio roles and 3 TV roles, so I think I can vouch for the fact that having an agent is very useful, and that she CAN get an agent at 13.

Hey sweetheart! I love your drive and ambition. First off the first thing you should do ofcourse is find an agent if you want to get into Acting I am not for sure how acting works because I am not an actress but I am in fact a Model and I have been modleing for years.. You need to start with that in getting a photographer and building a portfoloio. Good Luck sweet heart. I believe you can do it because you have the drive and determination.
