If you're worried about the line snapping, the answer is simple. Don't use mono, fluorocarbon line as your main line. Use braid. Use fluoro and mono only for leaders. It's a fine rod, though I really must say the Ugly Stik by Shakespeare is one of the best rods I've ever used. People say its overrated, but that's pure bullshit. If you're looking to spend lots of money on a rod for status, and to be able to say "Oh yeah, i spent $200 on my rod" then obviously it's not your choice. But I've had the same one for 4 years and it hasn't even come close to breaking. Perfect condition still. Lots of big bass fishing, even some inshore saltwater fishing. Go for the 6.5' - 8'.

If you have a big five sporting goods store near you they have a better rod and reel combo for less. They have a 6 ft shakespeare rod med action with shalespeare agility ball bearing reel for 19.95 but i think the sale end sunday. The reel alone is 45.00 but you get the rod and reel for 19.95!!!!!! I bought 2 and i am planning on buying another as it is a steal
