    Yikes. I'd say it's because the White mentality thinks, at some level, that Zimmerman could have been them. That they'd have done that: Zimmerman manifested their unconscious fears and hates. And rather than face and divorce themselves from it, they try to defend it and thus themselves. -White dude, myself. EDIT: Oh my God, just read some of these answers. Some White people aren't racist! I promise!
