Questions about working in Chick Fil A.

Atheist working for chick-fil-a?

  • I've worked at chick-fil-a for almost 2years now and have been a growing atheist. I havnt minded working with many Christians and it being a Christian company until I started reading and finding out more and more about how Christian it is and how it supports anti gay rights. I do not purchase any food from chick-fil-a anymore but I'm working for them and I want to quite because there's a point where morals need to come first but it's the only job I have, and in this economy it won't be easy to find another. I need a constant check to pay for my car insurance, gas, phone etc. I'm saving because I will be going to college soon and I'm having a hard time what to do. I've been signing applications to other places but I havnt landed on anything yet. I would quite today if I could but I need to make a living as well.

  • Answer:

sexual orientation is not protected with equal opportunity employers. I love the food there, but hate the philosophy they have. I had a gay friend who worked there and he ended up quitting because he couldn't take it any more.

QUIT THAT JOB BECAUSE THEY ARE FALSE CHRISTIANS

companies like that need to be careful, they need to be equal-opportunity employers and cannot discriminate due to age, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, etc. I'd look for another job. I worked for a company that did lawn fertilization-I just booked appointments-and I found out their spray fertilizer was killing ecosystems and creating algae & a toxic environment in local streams

Sexual orientation is not a protected class under federal labor law (remember, DOMA is still federal law). It may be under state law or municipal code. One does what one must to survive. Chick-fil-a's management philosophy is not a significant influence on society unless it becomes written policy. Your chance to move on will come soon enough.

Stay there until you find another job. It's fast food so I doubt it will take long to find another job. Fast food has a high turn over rate.

Not all Christians are anti-gay if you are thinking that. I for one am a big supporter of gay rights and I happen to be Catholic.
