I'm not sure how to do this with Windoze. I had this same problem in college, and I have a better solution for you. It's a little lengthy, but it's just the initial setup. Once you do this the first time, the process takes like 30 seconds every time after. Go to Ubuntu.com, and download version 10.04. Follow the instructions there and burn that .ISO to a disk. What you have now is a new Operating System different from Windoze. This is known as LINUX, and you can load it from your CD drive. It's better than Windoze, in that it doesn't restrict you from doing ANYTHING, you can browse ANY part of your file system, change anything you want, and comes with its own free version of office. When you start your computer, press F2, F10, F12 or something like that so that you can get into the BIOS settings, usually its some kind of blue screen that looks like a computer from back in the early 90's. Change your BIOS settings so that you can boot from your optical CD drive. Save and exit. Your computer will restart and will boot into Ubuntu LINUX rather than Windoze. When prompted, select "Try Ubuntu without installing", this lets you run Ubuntu normally without actually installing ANYTHING to your computer. When at the desktop, you will notice it looks REALLY different from Windoze. Your internet connection, time date etc are all on the right just as in Windoze, only they are at the top, not the bottom. Click on the WiFi symbol and connect to your wireless with a password as you would normally. Once connected, Right-click the WiFi symbol and choose: "Edit Connections..." under the "Wired" tab, choose "Auto eth0" and click edit. Go to the IPv4 settings tab and change "Automatic DHCP" to "Shared to other computers" Your laptop now accepts the WiFi signal and passes it on to the desktop. Now, I recommend you install the Ubuntu Operating System onto your computer. The best thing to do is to Dual Boot. This means, when you turn on your computer, it will prompt you and ask you if you want to boot into Windoze or Ubuntu. It's a little weird at first, but you'll get used to it. In fact, it takes no longer to adjust than switching to a Mac.
