Stereo Car Problems help!!!!!!?

today i was changing my stereo on my jeep liberty 2002 and i had an old stereo that i had in my car and i wanted to change my whole subs and amp and stereo to my jeep so i took the negative terminal battery off and plug everything in and by the time i turn the car on everything was working fine then i went and bought a new stereo i hook it up (same way) and it didnt turn on so i hook the original stereo and didnt turn on i hook up my old stereo and didnt turn on. so what could go wrong? and i also hook up the old and new stereo on my old car after they didnt turn on, on the jeep they didnt turn on my car either. HELP!
