Where is the best place to be a nurse?

Where is the best place to work as a nurse?

  • Hi I am wondering, that if a Scottish trained nurse is moving to Australia where is the best place to move to. Which is better: Melbourne or Sydney? Which would be better and what are any pros and cons Thank you

  • Answer:

All depends what you want from your Aussie experience ....all major cities have hospital facilities but so do all the regional cities around the country & many smaller towns. If you want to get a sense of the heartbeat ( pardon the pun ) of the country you could do a lot worse than to spend some time in an outback town where you'll experience far more than you ever will in a city .

Hospitals in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are all looking for qualified nurses. There is a shortage in Australia. I suggest you make direct contact with any of the major Hospitals in either of those cities before you travel. Do a Google search and make a selection. Email them to get requirements and salary. If you play your cards right, they may even cover the cost of your airfare depending on how desperate they are. Remember that Hospitals in Australia do not have nurses quarters any more, so you would also need to seek suitable accommodation nearby. Climate is another factor. It's much warmer in Brisbane than Sydney or Melbourne. It's what suits you. Good luck!

Sam, if you have multiple certificate in different fields of nursing beside your general, like midwifery, ER, pediatrics etc, then Aussie is right, I know of a hospital in a town in north Queensland, called Ayre District Hospital. Immigration looks more favorable on medical personnel, looking at country centers. The other is Sydney, hospitals like Westmead, which is humongous ( I was a patient there), Royal North Shore, R.P.A.H etc.

I would have thought that the best place for a nurse to work was a hospital. Or am I crazy? My eldest daughter is a registered nurse and is going overseas to find work. There is not a shortage of nurses there is a shortage of jobs hence going overseas.

Either would be good . Maybe look further .You will see The Gold Coast has a big new hospital being built and ready early next year. The Gold Coast is a fabulous place to live and work.

the entire country is SCREAMING out for qualified nurses, the question is, where would you like to live?

Probably a hospital ;) Melbourne's awesome, so I'd suggest you go there :)
