How can I file my taxes online for free [details included]?

  • ive got tax papers from 2010 for one job and 2011 for two jobs. how do i file my taxes? i know im supposed to use a free e-file but how? and what is "Adjusted Gross Income"?

old years you can't efile and as lond as you are single then you will be filling out the 1040EZ form which will be free at most tax preparation places like Jackson Hewitt or H&R block for this current year but then the state taxes will be different usually they will charge something for that... I know at Jackson Hewitt they charge $30 for just the state which I think that is pretty standard... I know this because I work there. and if you go to one of these places you could probably talk them into giving you a discount on last years taxes so you don't have to pay as much.

You as an individual cannot efile your 2010 return for free. A chain preparer (and even VITA) can efile 2010 if they understand how to use their software. most don't. To manually do 2010, get the forms, fill them in and mail.
