How do I get rid of the pop-up icon?

How to get programs to run as administrator AGAIN!!?

  • Ok so I need to run some programs as administrators but it will not let me do it. I know you have to go into properties and I did all that. It used to work and there used to be a little shield by the icons. Now no matter how many times I set it to run as administrator it will not put the little shield on the icon and it won't give me the popup notification. I checked my UAC and no matter where I set it the programs still don't run as admin. I tried searching for answers on google but most people want to get rid of the shield icon. Help me please!!!!

OK, since you are here in security, I'm going to come at this from a malware angle... Take these steps to rule out malware. 1. Run rkill, no need to install, just download to the desktop, and double click the icon. Read the description, not much to read. Delete when done, you can't update it. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill 2. After rkill has run successfully, install, and run a FULL scan with MBAM, it's free: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4716-malwarebytes-anti-malware.html If rkill shut nothing down, and the MBAM scan found nothing, you can pretty much rule out a malware issue (pretty much) At this point I suggest you go to bleepingcomputer forums, and post your question there. They are computer experts there, and should be able to figure out what is going on, and get your computer in shape. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/welcome.html If the MBAM scan did find something, but you still can't run your programs as admin, then you probably have further malware issues, and again bleepingcomputer will be able to fix you up. All help, and tools that they will want you to use are free.

A short term solution is to just right-click the file that you are trying to open, and choose "Run as administrator". The way to make a program always open as an administrator is to right-click and go to Properties>Compatibility>Privilege Level, and check "Run this program as an administrator". Setting the program to always run as admin on a shortcut may only work when you use that specific shortcut to open the program. You can also change the setting on the actual .exe itself, which should affect all shortcuts to the program. Some programs do not allow you to always run them as admin without right-clicking each time.
