How to get over the fear of tumbling?
-
My high school cheerleading team tryouts are in August. The team does not require a back handspring or any tumbling. If someone can tumble they want you to show it. I am going to be a sophomore. There is this girl coming in as a freshmen and she can tumble so good: layouts, handsprings, fills, etc. But she has never cheered before. At my school you can tryout for varsity or jv but you can be put on either team. The coach puts people on varsity according to how good they are and what spots she needs to fill for tumbling and stunting. Me and my friends are the best on JV but we want to make varsity this is and we don't want that girl to make it over us. My coach said that if other people can't tumble then we are not going to go in as a tumbling team. Only 2 people who are already on varsity can tumble. Me and my friends want to learn how to do a back handspring but the classes never work for us. We want to Learn them on our own secretly do nobody knows we can do them at tryouts. The thing is is that we are scared to do it well I am because she is not as strong as me so i don't think she can spot me but I could spot her we know the form and how to do one we just can't do them ourselves. After we get backsprongs we feel like we can do better in tumbling classes if we go again. PLEASE HELP and I do have a trampoline so I've been starting to do basic stuff on there. please help with getting over the fear of tumbling because we are really good at cheerleading so there is HIGH chance we will make varsity especially me because I am a really good base and we were alternates which means if someone get hurt for competition you fill and for them and I was first pick and I also want to learn how to tumbl becuase in the future my family is starting and all star team and they will need help with tumbling and I want to be on an all star team in the future because I am going away for college so yeah thank youu :) and this is in the wrong category becuase no one looks at the other 1s

Answer:
I always look at the "Sports-Other" category so I can answer questions about cheerleading. Honestly, I don't think trying to learn how to do back handsprings on your own is the best idea. You would learn it a lot faster in a gymnastics class and it would be safer. I'm sure that girl coming in that is really good at tumbling did not learn all those skills on her own. You will only get over your fear after you have been doing it for awhile. Good luck
