How to get German citizenship?

How to get German citizenship (German heritage)?

  • My great grandfather had the German citizenship, and I understand that (I've done some research), 4 generations are eligible to become German citizens. The problem is that he died and his son (my grandfather) didn't do the paperwork to obtain the citizenship. Now the link is "broken". Does anyone know how to get it?

  • Answer:

German citizenship is very strictly defined and difficult to obtain. Your father had to be a German citizen at the time of your birth for you to have any birthright to German citizenship. Under German law, even your grandparent's citizenship is irrelevant. No, only one generation is eligible to become a citizen by birth.

I have a similar problem: I know for a fact that I'm a descendant of Adam and Eve, yet I'm unsure how to obtain a passport to Paradise. It just boggles the mind.
