The cheapest colleges in canada?

If my family moves to Canada, will my American high school studies be accepted into Canadian colleges?

  • Well my family is thinking to move to Canada.. and I am a sophomore right now. If my family does move will my American high school credits be accepted into Canadian colleges? Also how do Canadian colleges accept you? By weighted GPA or non-weighted GPA?

  • Answer:

The application for immigration to Canada takes several years. You should be asking the new school's guidance teacher about the credits you need . Be careful, as you need to be legally resident in canada for at least one year to avoid paying international fees in colege or university..

In Canada, the LAST two years average marks, in high school are the criteria for admission. Be aware, in Canada, a College is NOT a University. If you want to study a subject that is directly liked to a type of employment, like being a diesel mechanic, a aircraft hydraulics technician, or a heavy equipment operator, you go to a College , and get a diploma. Usually the courses are two or three years long. If you want a higher type of education, like becoming a Professional Engineer, a Medical Doctor, or a Lawyer, you attend a University, and when you graduate, you get a Degree. Universities in Canada have high standards for admission, with most basic courses requiring a 70 percent average, and in many courses, a 80 percent average or higher. University courses are four years long. We don't use the SAT test, that is a American thing. High school average is the criteria. Remember that many things are different here, than what you have learned in the USA. For just one example, we use the metric measuring system. So you would be at a big disadvantage, when it comes to any science course, or a geography course. Same thing with world history, or current affairs. Our courses are much more a "world view " that what is taught in the USA. On the bright side, in Canada, you will have many more students from all over the world, to learn from. Remember that we admit more immigrants to Canada, every year, based on a percentage of our population, than any other country in the world. Come with a open mind and you will do just fine.
