Does anyone else think that the Sci/Art system of color analysis does not have the most accurate colors?
-
Okay, now we all know about the different systems that are used for personal color analysis right? (Finding our best colors in clothes, makeup, etc.) For example there are "Color Me Beautiful", "Color Me a Season", "Beauty For All Seasons", "Color Alliance", "Jeunique", and there are some private analysts that use their own methods too like Jane Fardon or Carol Thompson. Well, if we do some research on these systems we can also possibly find that sometimes they don't all use exactly the same colors, or they can have all kinds of different subcategories with all different colors, etc. Well, then we come to the Sci/Art system of personal color analysis, which is probably one of the more recently developed systems in the history of PCA. If one is to do research on Sci/Art one will undoubtedly notice that they claim to be the "gold standard" in PCA, and have the absolute MOST accurate colors (of all the PCA systems.) Now, I understand that companies will say a lot of things to market their product, and that in a competitive business environment you want to look like you are offering the best thing. Still though...has anyone here used a Sci/Art palette/color fan for buying clothes (etc.) and have you felt that some of their color choices for your palette are a bit..ummm..odd? For example, I'm an Autumn right? (I have only had professional PCA done online, not in person, and my results have varied between Dark and True Autumn, but I'm still sure that I have to be an Autumn.) Well, I have a Sci/Art True Autumn color palette (I won't say which company/make it specifically is because I'm not really trying to get anyone in "trouble" over this...but yeah there are some "different" "Sci/Art" fans made by different people.) Anyway, my pallette has these very unusual pinks on it. The other day I went to the mall and lo and behold, I actually managed to find a T shirt that matched the Sci/Art True Autumn pinks almost exactly! I went the change room, tried it on..and felt that it was not a flattering color on me at all! I also compared the pinks on my Sci/Art fan to the "pinks" that are on the "Color Me a Season" palette and I noticed that in the CMAS system they don't give anything to Autumn that looks even remotely as pink as the pinks on the Sci/Art fan! The CMAS "salmon pink" for Autumn looks really orange with only a trace of pink in it. The Sci/Art colors looked really directly PINK in comparison. And honestly, most of the reason why I have been color coded as an Autumn is because almost no pinks are really flattering on me, whereas orange actually is. So..that made me wonder: does Sci/Art TRULY have the MOST accurate colors for the seasons, or are some of their color choices actually a bit..ummm..off? And I wouldn't make such a big deal out of this except that they overtly claim that their colors actually ARE THE most accurate, and are SO tightly controlled in color space, etc. I don't get the sense that the colors on my palette actually are that tightly controlled in color space though. Otherwise, how do you end up with some kind of true pink on a True Autumn palette? It has to be more Soft Autumn than True Autumn, I swear! And I've heard some people say we have those pinks for "makeup choices" not clothing, but honestly that doesn't make sense to me either. Umm..Autumns aren't supposed to suit a lot of pink in makeup either?? (Unless maybe you are a Soft Autumn.) Also, I've heard more than a few True Summers mention that they don't get certain reds on their palette that actually suit them too! And when they ask about it they get told about how True Summers don't suit any true reds, but I've found out that that actually isn't true, and in other systems they are given the correct versions of red that suit them, but Sci/Art seems kind of funny about it. So, again..is this really the most accurate color system? Who else here has experience with this, and what system(s) do you feel seem the most "correct?" Personally, I love my individualized palette that I had done by Color Connection where they get your best colors using a computer! I actually feel that using technology (computers) is probably THE MOST accurate way to get a person's most harmonious colors. Every color I have tried from that palette so far has made my complexion look all nice and healthy and peachy. And it doesn't have the pinks that seemed wrong on me. (Or certain dark yellows that seemed bad too.) What does everyone else think?

Answer:
My sister has experimented with the Sci/art autumn palettes and although she knows she is an autumn she seems to have come to the conclusion that she can wear half the colors of their soft autumn palette and half the colors of their true autumn palette. I would be interested to see what the company Body Beautiful would say... they have between 16-28 different palettes. But at the end of the day I think the best system is one where the final resulting palette is a custom/tailor made one for you as an individual. The "seasons" may be a good guidance system but to really hone in on exact shades that suit YOU as an individual a customized procedure is needed I think. I offer online customized color analysis for $5 on fiverr.com... there is another online analyst there but she does not use the computer to check colors like I do. Of course I need a good quality photo of the person, with natural/correct lighting in order to get the best results. I was happy to learn about "Color Connection" from your post, I had not heard of them before.
