Is this a good 21st birthday party idea?
-
Hello all, I’ve got a 21st birthday coming up in early July. My mum asked me what my plans were today….and I had no ideas that really appealed to me. BUT THEN. I remembered hearing of adult’s parties and even engagement parties where there had been an adults jumping castle, and ever since that moment one whole hour ago I cannot get the giddy images of me and my friends reliving our childhood party days on a jumping castle out of my head. I am quite serious about this idea-the thought of a dinner out with friends and/or then schlepping to a club to get hit on by sleazes and get drunk do not appeal to me at all. Neither does a formal sit down dinner type party at a hired venue. I want something a little different and memorable for this milestone. I ran the idea by mum and she was kind of sort of convinced (she was probably thinking “Oh, not another ‘Jacinta’ idea. Why can’t she be normal”). Then I asked my 19 yr old sisters opinion and she told me that’s it stupid and I should grow up. But, since I’m not really planning to grow up anytime soon (despite the fact that in 3 months I will be universally recognised as an adult) and me and most of my friends who’ll be at the party are kids at heart, I’m still quite set on the idea. I think it would also be a good party icebreaker...last thing I want is an awkward party-after all I can be an awkward host, especially when the focus of the party is my birthday! Also, let’s face it, I just want to bounce around on a jumping castle under the stars. SO, what do you make of the idea of a jumping castle at a 21st birthday? Or am I going to be mocked and laughed at and then probably require therapy?

Answer:
You are never too old to have good, clean fun. Realize the bounce castle will be at most 30 minutes of the party. Make sure your guests dress appropriately for a bouncing, good time. After the ice-breaker, make some time to cool down. Have a toast with your favorite cool drinks. Hey, you're 21, maybe your "first" drink as an adult. Now it's time to get down to some serious partying. I'm a magician, and I know, you probably just groaned. But if you get the "right" magician, he can make you and your friends have an absolutely amazing time. Keeping with the childhood theme, if you have an amusement park nearby, make a trip and ride the carousel. Then off to a hip night spot for some munchies, drinks and dancing.

Its a nice concept, just make sure everyone that you'd want at the party be supportive in the idea, it'd be awkward as all hell if you were the only one bouncing lol.

Don't be afraid of being mocked for something you think is fun. I'm actually 21... Just don't be like me and spend your birthday at home being delusional and depressed like I was.

No, you're never too old to have fun like that. I think people who can't let go and act a little silly because they are too worried about what other people will think are boring, honestly. I have seen people of all ages playing in those bouncy castles-at weddings, at birthday parties, etc. & They always have a great time. It honestly sounds like fun to me. You only turn 21 once, enjoy it while you're young & do what you want at your party. It's your party, have fun doing what you want to do. Also, if you and your best friends who are going to be at your party feel the same way as you do, then they will definitely enjoy it too. Even if some people are a little too shy to get in the bouncy castle, then that's fine too. At least, you know most people at the party will still have a good time. Everyone doesn't have to get in the bouncy castle. Remember, some people may WANT to get in, but may feel a little shy about "letting loose".
