How do you convince your parents to let you get a driving permit?

How can I convince my parents to let me get a Boston Terrier puppy?

  • My teacher's dog had puppies on monday. He came back the next day asked the class if they wanted to adopt any. A lady has one reserved for sure and there are 3 left (1 boy and 2 girls) [He raised the price of the boy] The puppies are pure bred and I told him i was sure that i wanted one. He said he wouldn't sell them until they're 6-8 weeks old (end of school year) btw my birthday is like at the very end of the school year. My mom doesn't care but dad doesn't want a dog (have a shih tzu its a girl btw but i didnt get to raise her from a puppy when I moved away but I came back ofc a few years later. I'm a freshman in highschool and when's another chance i can get such a great deal. He said I could get a girl for $200 and they're really sweet. I can purchase the puppy itself with my own money (which I intend on doing) and the other supplies should be provided. I'm actually sincerely sure my parents will help with the supplies if I get the dog with my money. The problem is my dad ofc and idk how to prove to him I can take care of a dog. I've done it many times with other dogs when i was little. The only things he has against me was when i got a ferret in the 4th grade and had them take care of it, i took care of my betta fish for 2 years and it was REALLY health but.. it died last month :/ (age of course) i got that fish in 7th grade. For my birthday in 7th grade I bought a bearded dragon took care of it for 2 years (parents cleaned out the cage the 3rd year) I got tired of him and gave him away to a good family. Just too many problems. Then i got hermit crabs and they're still living health. But I mean.. getting this dog will be special and I know how to take care of a dog, I just really want to raise a puppy on my own so i can bond strongly with it and this is my chance! PLUS I already told my teacher I was sure about getting it so he told me he'll tell me where he lives and my parents and I can come over and select a girl. He's reserving them just for me and I can't just blow it off like that near the end. I have like 6 weeks maybe 7 to convince my parents and get the dog. I REALLY believe I can do this and I've matured A LOT over the years. I strongly believe I can take on this responsibility and I just want this one amazing chance. Btw I cant just blow it off like I said earlier (his wife told her elementary students and asked if they were interested so I already made a comitment on getting it, I can't just "take a dog" away from a little kid and never actually adopt it. It wouldn't be right and what would that make me look like? a horrible person not forgetting to add the feeling of doing so.(my mom is the vice principal of my highschool and that would make her look bad aswell, I just can't do that) I just really want this chance, it's like once in a lifetime. I just dont know what to do to convince my dad.

  • Answer:

I approached my parents directly about purchasing a puppy and made a case for my being able to be primarily responsible for the pup outside of school, homework and extracurricular activities - which meant in reality I was part-time responsible and my parents had to be willing to pick up the slack. Had it been a no, I would have respected their decision and left it at that. When you live in the parental home, the rules and decisions are not yours to make. In his capacity as your teacher it was unprofessional to ask students if they would be interested in one of his Boston Terriers puppies and it is not a once in a lifetime opportunity. I suggest you contact the Boston Terrier breed club for reassurance that they have members with planned or litters on the ground and will have for years to come.

No its not once in a lifetime. there will ALWAYS be poorly bred dogs for cheap out there. Speaking of which how much more irresponsible can your teacher be? He has NO business trying to hawk his crap pups to his students. That's on you for making claims you really didn't know would be true or not. No it will not make your mother look bad since YOU speaking out of turn has nothing to do with her.

You can't. Wait until you're old enough to have your own place, then get a dog when you can afford to care for one for 10+ years and have the time to care for one.

Your teacher is a not what I would call a reputable breeder for trying pawn off his pet quality puppies to his students. Is the school okay with him trying to turn his classroom into a market place, I would think at least the school should get a percentage of the take! If I were your mom I would give them a good tongue lashing for trying to build their clientele out of the school student body. A dog is a LIFETIME COMMITMENT for the entire life of the dog, NOT just two years. And if you think a bearded dragon "has too man problems" part of being a responsible dog owner is staying two steps ahead of your dog at all times to avoid problems, which does not include "act of God" situations that you had no control and/or situations that arise out of the total stupidity of irresponsible dog owner. So you see this is not a "once in a life time opportunity"! I will bet you are not you have not done ANY research about this breed nor familiar with the breeds standards! As far as your mom looking bad for YOUR commitment, it is just as I stated, "YOUR COMMITMENT" not hers. If I were your mother I would FORBID you to take a pup just for the GP of them turning the classroom in to a kennel!

You don't Those dogs are NOT pure bred, tehy are ill bred BYB mutts that will cost their new fool owners thousands in vet bills. You had several animals and all of them either died or you got rid of them because they were too much trouble. Why should you be allowed to have another pet? Any one who reads the fact you had several pets and you let them die or got rid of them knows you are irrepressible. Since you are a minor you can't own, purchase or adopt the dogs. Do YOU have the 2,000 for he dogs first year? Do YOU have the 800-1,00 a year for the next 12 years? Do YOU have the 1,000+ for an e-vet? Do You have the 1,000s the ill bred BYB dog will cost you in vet bills? All I see is a case of I Want, I Want, I Want. You don't care about the fact so many animals died under you care and the rest were dumped because they were just too much trouble for you to be bothered with taking care of them So again, why should your father, who seems like a very reasonable man, allow you to have a dog that you can't afford to take care of just because you want it and will dump it once its too much trouble ?
