Will Ice bring down the swelling on my Puppy's ear in the mean time? As I cant get to the Vet tonight.?
-
My little Puppy has a very swollen ear and I've had some very good feed back, as I cannot rush him\ off to the vet tonight" I was wandering will any other home natural remedies work besides Sea salt as I do not have any? Ice will that at least bring down the swelling for the time being? Thanks Peter.

Answer:
NO!!!!! Will do NOTHING to remove the BLOOD ...that's what a hematoma IS. Needs draining...opening...to relieve the pressure.

A small baggie of frozen peas (every mother knows frozen peas are the 'bees knees' of emergency ice packs) will do nicely as an ice pack for your pup. I don't know the 'why' behind your dogs swollen ear, but I do know that alternating heat and cold will allow blood to move through the area helping to drain excess fluids. I would try 10 minutes of ice and then either let that rest, or follow up with a few minutes of therapeutic touch to encourage blood flow through the swollen part. Keep your touch very light and use the tips of your fingers, the very tips and do itsy-bitsy small circles around the swollen area. This stimulates blood flow. If you don't have frozen peas, try frozen corn, or other small veg. ~ otherwise a typical icy-ice pack, maybe crushed ice to be more form fitting to the ear area.

Yes, it will, but make sure not to put the cold source directly on the dog's ear. Wrap it in something like a cloth to prevent local cold injuries, and make sure the dog doesn't do more damage. I hope they feel better!

i believe that sea salt will aggrivate the ear. so yes ice will bring down the swelling just like if u get punched in ur eye u put ice on it.

Yes, keep your puppy's ear wrapped in a cool cloth or an ice pack. If the ear is squishy it means that it is just swollen skin. If your puppy's ear is hard as a rock it could be an infection or an abscess.

If you do ice, do a bad of peas (they shape better to odd things) Your puppy may not hold still long enough for you to hold it. It is not a hematoma. A hematoma is a blood pack in the ear, it looks like a large blister. *my dog had a hematoma
