How to get rid of and reset a wireless network?

  • I had one of my brothers friends come and setup my wireless network because i wanted it to be faster. He did some crazy stuff and now i have no idea whats going on. I have 2 routers one for me and my wife and another for my kids. Then their is a separate network for printing that my kids use because it connected to our network not theirs. In total i have like 4 boxes and internet is really bad.I have 2 separate routers a modem and a box from my internet service provider. I have no idea what is going on and just want my internet to be simpler and faster. It is always dropping and my kids complain it is always lagging and not letting them connect to the internet. After a few minutes it will kick back on and run fine for a little while. My brother and I cannot get the guy to call us back to fix this problem. So i want to try and set up my own network. I think i got most of it down. My real problem is how do i take down my current network and start anew. I have a belkin, a cisco, and a netgear router. I hear d-link is pretty good so i want to know which router would be the best for lots of connections. i have 5 computers, 2 printers, 2 ps3's, 3 ipods, 1 handheld game, and a few phones at 1 time or another. i would like to know how to set up the fastest network for all these devices but still keep it to a modem and 1 router. I also would like to know if their is anything special i have to do to take down my existing network. Any help is greatly appreciated! i work at home so my internet is extremely important to providing for my family. Thanks for any help!!

To simplify this take the best of your routers and put the one you don't want away. You should only have two boxes. Unless you have something that I don't know about. Basically all you need is your modem and a router. The modem is what your ISP gives you to connect to the internet. This will supply all your connection needs Check though that you do not have a modem\router in one device as sometimes companies provide that. Ok now take the router that you want to use and connect it your modem. On the router there is a a little hole (maybe on the back) that has a button inside of it. Paperclips work for this. Push that button in for 3 to 5-secs (while the router is powered on) this will reset the router to factory settings enabling you to access it without security. You can change the router's settings anytime. This is all you need. At my house I have one modem that my DSL line connects into and one NetGear router. The router connects my PC and all other wireless devices such as Iphones wireless printers and laptops a BlueRay Netflix device and a wireless Desktop and I have no issues. You have to many Network devices(routers) for just a small home network. My thoughts that each device has its own security and firewall settings and if they are all turned on then that can slow your network. The more security the slower the network. With my suggestion you are going through less of that. Your firewall settings on your modem and 1 router plus some wireless security will be sufficient enough for this. Once you setup your router with security start connecting your devices(PS3Iphone) using your SSID name and wireless security passord. THis will work fine and should utilize your internet speed and your network should be faster.
