How to fix monitor from turning black when windows is starting up?

• After BIOS, my computer briefly comes up with the windows 7 startup animation but then my computer monitor screen quickly turns black. I still hear the windows start up sound and my monitor "turns back on" as the welcome screen pops up. I have tried switching graphics cards but it doesn't seem to fix the problem. Also, i have noticed in some games such as left 4 dead and half-life 2, that when i enter a very dark room that the monitor completely turns black so my HUD disappears and the monitor comes back on when i turn on my flashlight in game, or move out of the dark area. It has been bugging for a while and want to know if it is my monitor at fault. I have checked all the cables are properly plugged in and latest drivers for my graphics card. I am quite good when it comes to computers as i build them for myself and others, but this has been bugging me as i cant solve the problem. Also, i put "comes back on" in inverted commas as the monitor doesn't actually turn off(power light stays on). The monitor is an Asus VE247H 24" 1080p monitor. This monitor is plugged in via HDMI to my Radeon 6970 graphics card. In my bios, the setting for primary graphics display is set to PCIe which is the slot that my graphics card is plugged into. The diver installed is for all the outputs for my graphics card and i get audio over my hdmi cable into my monitor. Computer is newish and the installation of windows 7 64-bit is new. Started to happen very soon after windows was installed so i don't think it is an issue from a long term system. Thanks

  It's not something that needs fixing. The monitor is working correctly. It is just how Windows boots up.
