What does HDMI mean?

What does Radeon 6570 1gb DDR3 with HDMI Hyper Memory Upto 2gb Mean for Graphics Cards?

  • Buying a computer with this graphics card, although it's not the best, I just want to know what the "With HDMI Hyper Memory Upto 2GB" bit mean as this really does decide the fate of me buying the PC? Will choose best answer within 1 hour :D Thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

HDMI simply means the card has an HDMI port for connecting to monitors (or high definition TV sets) which can take that type of cable, "Hyper memory" is a feature only found on lower-end ATI/AMD cards, and it's something to be avoided, if possible. It means the graphics card has the ability to borrow (i.e. steal) some of your System RAM to use as additional video RAM instead. In this case the card has 1GB of memory onboard, and Hyper Memory allows it to cannibalize another 1GB of your system RAM (which reduces the memory available to Windows by 1GB) and is actually quite worthless, since the Radeon HD 6570 isn't powerful enough to game at resolutions where having 2GB of video RAM would actually help performance. You have to be running multiple monitors or running a single monitor at resolutions higher than 1920x1080, for 2GB of video RAM to actually be beneficial. Nvidia has a similar feature on their low-end cards called Turbo cache. Does the same thing (allows the card to steal System RAM)
