IMovie help?

Help with iMovie editing and file size?

• For a project I need to make a website and I want to include a youtube video. I recorded the video and transferred it to my laptop. When I edited a video before it took an hour to optimize and then a while to save and finish (the reason is because I have an outdated single core acer) so I put these videos I recorded on a usb and put them on a mac I use in my class to edit on it because it can process the video faster and has smooth 1080p playback. I never used iMovie before, I think its iMovie 9. The whole video I want to make is from 12 clips and I wanted to insert a clip in halfway though another but I don't see anyway to do so. Can that be done? If not can I make a break or something in the one clip, and then insert the other one and when it ends it resumes the clip I broke up. Also it was recorded in 1080p on my blackberry playbook and the 12 clips are about 20 mins and are 2.93gb. After using iMovie I didn't know what to do and didn't want to loose quality so I told it to use the highest quality, so far I only have one 5 minute clip in and its somehow 3 some gbs, how is a 1080 file already in hd taking up a bigger file size just because I told it to keep the clips in hd, shouldn't they be about the same. Is there a way to keep the video in 1080p yet for the file size to be what it originally was and now how much bigger iMovie is making it. If not the whole video will probably be almost 15gb so would youtube even let me upload a video that size? I really need help on this so I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

  For basic editing, Wondershare Vivideo for Mac is a great choice: It's also free trial, so that's always nice.
