Need Help Building Photoshop Portfolio for Graphic Design job.?

  • Hi, i am very good at photoshop cs5, and i want to begin building my own portfolio. i have never gone to school for this or anything, all i know is self taught. Basicly i can make anything in photoshop, and i want to get a job in graphic design, but i need to make a portfolio. what are some good designs or projects i should make in photoshop. i think i need around 30 things. i am very good at making skateboards graphics. some of my work is here: oceangrownskateboards.co.cc

    Well, if you want to go into graphic design, you should have a variety, even if you know what you want to do. So here are some main categories: -Print (Posters, Publications, Brochures, Zines, etc.) -Packaging -Web/Interactive -Videos -Letterpress/Screen Print -Clothing It's nice that you do photoshop, but I will tell you right now, most will expect you to have strong typographic skills and a strong understanding of InDesign, which is used to design posters, publications, and other typographic/print items. The more variety of work you have, the more likely you'll get hired to work in different areas. I also like your website, it's very hip and aimed towards a younger demographic/target audience. But, as a hint, it takes a bit long to load. Statistic shows that if a web page doesn't load within 10 seconds, most people will move on and not bother. Just a hint.
