What do I need to become a Video Game Programmer?

• Hi there, I am 15 years old and currently in my first year of GCSE's (UK). I am very good with computers and recently have taken to the idea of becoming a video game programmer, since I love games and have a passion for computers. I was wondering what courses I should take for A Level/College and also what course I should take in University to become a Programmer? Along with that, what sorts of qualifications are needed to become a programmer? Thanks very much :)

  Don't listen to anyone saying that it's just a dream, if you want to become something then don't let others stop you. I mean lets face it the gaming industry is huge and growing everyday, obviously that means there is always a demand for skilled programmers. The best way to start off is to actually learn to program as the games industry relies heavily on real skills and peoples portfolios so why not start now. That's not to say that qualifications aren't important though, for A-level I would recommend something like ICT and Maths and then as you progress towards university you can start looking at computer science or video games programming. Hope that gives a basic indication!
