How to get a smartphone without a data package?

• It's that time again. My two year contract is up and I get to scour Verizon for a basic phone that's not trash. Unfortunately all the phones are awful. Is it possible I can get a smart phone with out the data package? I don't want to pay $30 a month for something I won't even use. Either I can get a smartphone with out a data package, get a basic phone that isn't awful or I can change companies to a contract that doesn't require my whole family to separately pay $30 for our four phones ($30 times 4 phones times 12 months in a year is $1440 dollars for something we won't use) What are my best options? I'd prefer to stay with Verizon, but I hate most of the phones I've gotten. Any options?

  Every wireless provider in the United States requires a data plan for all smartphones. Your best option is to get a basic phone.
