How can I plug a regular phone into my cell phone?

Plug entire landline phone into cell phone?

  • I have an old candlestick phone that I want to use as a headset for my cell phone. Really I'm going to use it to make calls over wifi with my old cell phone, and use it as a home phone. Problem is, I don't want to modify any of the circuitry in the phone itself. Something like Cobra Phonelynx is exactly what I want, only I don't want it to be bluetooth, I want it to connect via the 3.5 mm jack on my phone. Everything I've found just shows how to connect a handset to a cell phone, which, while like the RJ11 jack, is not the same at all. Just hooking up the wires won't work, as the phone needs power, and it isn't just a simple case of microphone, speaker, and ground wires. Anybody know where I could find some sort of schematic that would make this work?

  • Answer:

Rube Goldberg is alive and well :-) I have a Verizon Wireless Home Connect box. It uses my cell minutes and costs me about $15 a month, but it gives me dial tone for a single line telephone. However!!! I don't believe it accepts rotary dial signals, so now you'd need a pulse-to-tone converter. There used to be some docking stations that interfaced cell phones to POTS lines, but it was manufacturer specific. There may be a universal box, via bluetooth to POTS. Lotta hardware for the "stick.
