Filming video in HD with Canon elph 310 focus issues and bg noise?

  • I bough the canon elph 310 specificially for it's 1080hd video. I had a canon 790IS before this one and I liked it's video capability but this new camera when filming tends to have a jittery focus which isn't so bad it's the noise of the camera constantly focusing itself in the background that's horrible. It sound like someone tapping out Morris code throughout my whole video. Is there any way to fix this problem there seems to be not much in the way of adjusting the video settings. My older canon seemed to have better video adjusting settings. I did have digital zoom on the 310 set to standard I switched it to off but I don't know if this will effect video in any way.

    That annoying sound is the sound created by the camera trying to focus almost everytime. I suggest you return the camera and get a Sony Bloggie Touch which is alot cheaper. It can also do 1080. or the Flip Ultra HD.

First lets be clear about something. You can't do "filming" with this camera. Using the wrong terms only makes it clear you have no idea what you're talking about. Video is video, film is film, they're not the same at all. That's what an auto focus camera does during video recording - the focus is jumping around trying to find a focal point - that's why so many recommend against these types of cameras and why there are so few on the market. If you can turn it off then do so but I'd be dubious about that. Since this is a very small camera there's no option for manual focus so you're stuck with it unless you replace it.
