Help with a PreMed major?

Between UC Berkeley, UT Austin, and NYU, where should I look at as a Biochem major doing premed?

  • I live in Texas, so I'm more comfortable with UT Austin. I like Berkeley, the people are nice, but the competition is seriously unreal. NYU is in New York City, where the city can get pretty distracting. I want to go to a prestigious med school. At Berkeley, I know my GPA will be lower, but is it worth it for the reputed name? Does the name trump the GPA? I know both the gpa and mcat, as well as research/internship opps are important. What school is the best? Can someone who has attended these schools as premed/med or someone who knows a lot on the subject help? College decisions deadline is approaching very fast! Thank you so much.

  • Answer:

GPA and MCAT are 90% of what matters for med school. Stick to UT Austin. The tuition is miles and leagues cheaper than anything out of state, especially since you're a Texan, and it's not worth going out of state for.
