What essentials do I need for a Road Trip?
-
The hubby and I are taking a 3 week road trip from Melbourne to QLD in May. No caravan, we are staying in cabins, however what are some good essential things I should be taking? eg esky cooler, first aid kit, baby wipes etc.

As someone who has done a bit of road travel here in USA I'm happy to see that you're reaching out and asking for advise which tells me that you are or have done the second step to get to your destination: Planning. Yhat out of the way, here are some things I've found helpful: 1.A GPS unit. either hand held or for the vehicle. Many offer Traffic Alerts that can be very handy since they'll keep you adviced of many traffic problems along your route providing plenty of warnings should you need to make a detour. 2.Updated road map in case you don't have a GPS unit 3.Drinking fluids such as water, juice, tea, coffee. You can include beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages but only for consumption during your stops. 4.Energy bars. Prices for some of these items can vary from place to place so having some before starting your trip can be a money saver. 5.Fruits, nuts, cookies and other snacks. 6.Extra fuel. 7.Extra spare tire. 8.MP3 player or satelite radio unless you like to raise and lower the windows to change the tone of the road noise inside the vehicle. 9.Reading material like books or magazines. 10.Table games. Other things to consider should be who is going to do the driving. The trip becomes more enjoyable and less tiresome if more than one person share time at the wheel plus an additional consideration should be given to your children if they'll be traveling with you as well as their age. On a personal note, 90-percent of my travel have been done alone so I try to cover no more than 500 miles on a day due to fatigue. I try to have a good breakfast before hitting the road or within an hour or so after leaving last stop since this helps me keep alert and press hard during the early hours of the morning before the monotomy of the trip and fatigue start to set in. I hope this help out and wish you the best on your trip.
