Do Canadian TV newscasters ever mock Americans when reporting news? Any YT links?
-
I want to see footage of real Canada TV news broadcasts (ONLY) where after showing a news segment or broadcast about USA the camera cuts back to the Canadian reporters/broadcasters who have a chuckle at Americans and/or make sarcastic remarks or joke about USA. I am NOT interested in youtuber shows (because I've already seen a few), I want real live Canada news excerpts from Canada TV mocking Americans. (linked from youtube ok) With my apologies to Canadians for repeating myself, I live South of your border and well it's a necessary habit here if you want to be understood! ;-) If you can't find any links, please then tell me: does it happen often? Every time they show you stuff pertaining to USA on the news?? I particularly look forward to Crow's links (LOL) and of course, the master of links himself, Shawn Robin, and all of you as well! :)

Answer:
I have never seen any news casters in Canada making fun of an American storyline they were covering, unless of course it was meant to be a fun story anyway. For example, usually if we hear about a school shooting or a natural disaster in USA, the only comments they will make is maybe look at each other and say things like "very sad!". On the other hand, if it's a story about some 80 year old Memphis lady who believes that a potato she grew in her garden looks like the Virgin Mary and people are now coming to pray for salvation at the potato she has sitting on a little altar above her fireplace, then you might expect to hear some mocking or laughter about the piece. But pretty much the same as what you might see on some local ABC or NBC affiliate. And that would likely not make the national news desk anyway. We have much more important world issues to cover. If you want to see coverage for Canadian news shows go search on YouTube for "CTV news" or "CBC news" and check out some of the reports they made related to USA. Those are the two big news agencies here. Also keep in mind that Canada does have several political satire shows that are similar to the "Daily Show with Jon Stewart" or "Real Time with Bill Maher". Ours include "Rick Mercer Report", "This Hour Has 22 Minutes", and "Royal Canadian Air Farce".

Hmm... I don't think I have ever seen that happen, to be honest. Edit: I agree with Penguin's comment about Fox News. It's just outrageous sometimes.

No talking about a country behind their backs on national tv is something that is reserved for Americans, specifically fox news. Canadians have more class and respect than to do things like that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwwMccb9b8Y

Here in Toronto, the usual butt of on- air jokes is Buffalo, New York, and their bush league TV stations. It is a standing joke that Buffalo has more fires per day than any other place, or at least that is the main TV news content, night after night. The second standing joke is the "back up at the border " story that runs at least once a week over there. Can't offer you actual links, but the people on here who watch CTV Toronto, or CHCH Hamilton, will recognize the pattern, for sure. As was mentioned, Rick Mercer used to do a segment called " Talking to Americans " where he would travel to the states, and do "man on the street " type interviews with "average Americans " asking , in a serious voice, if they knew that the Canadian penguin was endangered. Of course, there are NO penguins in Canada, so the joke was obvious to any Canadian, but the Yanks would go all concerned and want to make a contribution to the "Save the Penguins " fund. He also did the famous "ambush interview " with one of the Bush Presidents, asking for his opinion of the new Canadian Prime Minister..... " Pierre Poutine ". The answer was something like this..........A fine man and a great leader of the Canadian People. Falling down funny, for sure. Jim B Toronto.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any that I know of. And none that my trusty minions were able to find for me. (If my employees want to goof off, the price is doing research for my links library.) Just the CBC's fake news programs like This Hour Has 22 Minutes, its spin-off series The Mercer Report, and other comedy programs like The Royal Canadian Air Farce. The Mercer Report is more than just comedy, it's also biting social commentary. So I think it's the closest thing I think you'll get: Link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F0i5gNm7rk Link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7ytb_n949s Link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgQiGy0pZ_I&feature=relmfu Link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alUU9bnS70k Not what you were hoping for, but it's all the seems to be available.
