Why do people go out?

Why do people from small towns usually stick to hanging out with the same people , and go to the same places?

• Can someone please explain this to me? Its sort of a culture shock. I recently moved to a small town a couple years ago, and these people always hang out with people they know and go to places in the town they live in. WTF? Where I am from, people would venture out and go to other towns and they had friends from all over. But these small town people, its like a cult with them. You never see them going anywhere else or having friends outside of this area that they live in. Its just weird. And what else is weird about it, they don't act like other places or meeting new people is important to them. A major tity is only 60 miles from where this town is. And if you go 30 miles, you start heading into the suburbs with tons things to do. But these people never go there. Can someone explain this to me?
