I am a 3rd year medical student (1 year away from being a doctor/resident), and I can tell you that you do have to be smart. Medical school is hard to get into... the medical school that I am at gets about 15,000 applications per year, and accepts about 175 people. And, you have to be willing to work very hard. During your first 2 years, you have a lot of stuff to memorize and it can be very frustrating. And during the last 2 years, you have to work up to 80 hours per week for no money- this is probably the biggest down side for me- not getting to have much of a life outside of work. The other stuff.... the money for example, doesn't really matter... I'm not from a rich family, but I have enough money from student loans to support myself.. I'll have a lot of debt when I get out of school, but I'll have enough money to pay it off fairly easily. In the end, I think being smart and being willing to work really hard for 8 to 12 years are most important.

I have my Doctorate degree in Pharmacy and answering a question like the one you ask is pretty subjective. I personally think Medical school is harder than Pharmacy school or Dental school. However, that is just my opinion. Our pharmacology class was taken by medical and pharmacy students. I got to be pretty good friends with some of the medical students and they looked at some of my organic medicinal chemistry tests and thought it looked harder than their classes. I, on the other hand looked at some of their tests and thought they looked harder than any tests we had to take. In the end a medical student has to decide on a specialty and bust their balls for, depending on the specialty, several years before they even start to see the light. After graduating from pharmacy school a residency is optional and most students just want out of debt and, in my opinion this is why medical school is harder. More appropriately harder and longer. Either way a strong math and science back ground are essential. If you are not that bright in these types of classes based on your scale it will be a 10 all the way. If these subjects are easy for you the scale could be a 1. I was blessed with a photographic memory so pharmacy school was a breeze. I suspect medical school would have also been a breeze, but I simply did not want to stay in school that long. Only you really know your true capacity. Hope that helps.

Pre-med is easy. Med school doesn't require you to be smart, but you have to work hard. More than anything becoming a doctor takes money (in the form of tuition, and affording to not work for 8-12 years) Also, a lot of doctors are stupid (but came from rich families)

If it interest you and u.enjoy.it not hard at all.math and science are essential. however you do not have to worry about that because once you start college in doing the work you will learn what you really want to go
