Why don't we attach health insurance/care to employment in Britain the way the Yanks do?

Not all cases of cancer are caused by smoking etc, even little children can get cancer. To say nothing about all the other diseases like MS that can strike you at any time with no way of predicting. Even a simple tick bite can turn you from the healthiest person out there to a virtual invalid. A mystery virus can in days make you partly blind and even affect your brain and kill you--I know a fighting fit man who died due to a mystery virus that made all his organs attack themselves. Many people in the US work a job just to get health insurance. It stops some people from starting a business. Many people want to have universal health insurance to avoid job lock. Just because you do not value your brother's work does not mean it is useless because someone pays him to teach that class and someone pays for his writing. Those someones spent money for his effort.

1.Most Americans are one serious illness away from financial ruin. Medical debt is the number 1 cause of bankruptcy in the US, 75% of which ARE insured!!! 2.After a serious illness, your insurance company can drop you like a stone, leaving you helpless!!! 3. If you are seriously ill more than a couple of times in the same year, you can max out leaving you with facing serious financial ruin!!! 4. What about self employed people, as any self employed American will tell you, they can't afford it!!! millions of self employed Americans go without seeing a doctor for years because of the staggering costs, not only of treatment, but because of the cost of medication itself!!! 5. The US pays ten times more for the same medication than any other country on the planet, even though it has the bulk buying power far greater than most!!! 6. Cut the benefits of those people or make them work for their benefits, don't whatever you do wish for this backward ugly for profit medical system, you would be taking a giant step backwards!!! 7. What happens when you lose your job and you get cancer or have a heart attack??? 8.Cancer, can get to the fittest of people not just those who eat crap food, smoke or do drugs!!! 9.I would say your average Brit is more asset rich than your average American, quality of life is far higher also, Americans work a lot more hours and get on average only two weeks vacation a year!!! 10.Britain does need to stop anyone walking into the country and taking benefit of its health care system, it needs to come down harder on benefit cheats also, there are a lot better ways of tightening the belt than what you are suggesting...believe me....you would not want this!!!

You are mistaken about insurance being tied to full time employment in the US. Some part time workers qualify for insurance benefits. It all depends on the employer's policies.

???? Because you aren't morons. First, fewer and fewer jobs offer health care (and pay a smaller percent of those costs every year). Second, as everyone who has any BRAIN knows, there aren't enough jobs for everyone who wants one. ??? Uh, it isn't the employee who decides whether a position is part-time or full-time. It's the employer. And employers hire two part-time people to AVOID paying anyone's health care, rather than compensate employees with ta living wage.
