Temporary Jobs? Are they any good?

Military jobs that would qualify me for a good salary in the civilan world?

  • I'm hoping to enlist this summer, but I am still researching and deciding on what branch and jobs to request. I want to serve but find it unlikely that I will stick around for more than my initial contract time. I am wondering what jobs in the military would be good for finding good paying jobs after military life. Obviously anything engineering related would be good but I have a full chemical engineering scholarship at Mississippi State University and have decided that's simply not what I want to do with my life. So what military jobs with what branches would you recommend for finding good paying jobs after military life keeping in mind that I have a moderate-high intelligence level. Thanks, Houston Rawlinson Also please try to resist telling me to finish school. I am hearing enough of that from my family right now. I want to serve as well as benefit myself and I can finish school later in life if I so choose.

Wow, nice question, anyway, Logistics, avoid Army and Marine Corps, go for Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard, become an Officer, but listen to those enlisted experts, Submariner, so many options, school can wait!

Navy Nuclear Engineering. Lots of jobs available afterwards with big $$$

Navy nukes don't make a lot after the military. Most of what they have been trained on is secret or top secret, and thus can't be applied to the civilian world. Most of their tech school training does not transfer into civilian college credits because of security reasons. My bro was a nukie and couldn't use any of his experience in the civilian world. If you're looking for money, the military is not the way to go. No one gets rich in the military, and to be honest, most of what you will learn in the military will be useless in the civilian word. Just pick a job you can envision enjoying for at least 4 years. If you hate your job, you'll hate the military. If you love your job, it's at the least not that bad and you may even love it.

Living the Dream

I know some people went the Dental assistant route in the Army. Here's the perks your AIT (Advanced initial training) is in San Antonio, TX. (great city) And your female to male ratio for Medical training is something like 10 - 1! My military career was Logistics, & its about who you know when job hunting

What do you consider a "good salary"?

mgan

I was an aircraft mechanic, easiest 4 yrs I ever did. Later got my A&P and working for Boeing.

How about joining a Reserve unit while you do post secondary education. That way you can serve and go to school and set up your civilian career. The older you are it's harder to get into the student mind set. Even people that want to get a masters, unless a masters requires work experience I'd say do it after a bachelors. One you leave school for a real world job not always easy to say OK time to go back as you are out of the student mindset. If money is your number one priority then you're not gonna see that in the Military.
