You are right, your dad is wrong. We are more than animals...we rise above our instincts every day... men do not have any trouble controlling themselves in Tesco when shopping with their family, so how come they are suddenly overwhelmed after they take themselves to a bar and spontaneously meet someone of the opposite sex who they find attractive? No, it is a convenient excuse... and demonstrates a person who is clearly not to be trusted. We make choices and they all have consequences, being an adult comes with responsibilities.

We aren't monkeys anymore. We have emotions, standards, morals, and integrity. Your father is just doing what a lot of guys do, finding excuses for inexcusable behaviour.

Actually, contrary to what everyone else is saying, I can understand your dad's point. We are different to animals but we are governed by the same needs as ALL life: hunger, thirst, need for sex etc. Sex is a completely natural desire. It is healthy and normal. It is as powerful as feeling hungry for food or thirsty for water. For me, people who totally separate humans from animals idealise what it is to be human.

There's no excuse for cheating! If you want to be with someone else break it off with your current partner. I've heard a lot of excuses for people cheating which are total bullcrap! And animal instinct would mean mating, repopulating and what not it would NOT just be shagging someone!!!

I think it's only acceptable if the man in question literally has the intelligence of a dog. In all seriousness, this is just an excuse. Humans have the ability to use logic and reason. All people have an instinct to reproduce but they also have the ability to control their instincts, or there would be absolute chaos. The people who cheat, do it because they want to, not because they don't have a choice in the matter.

Reality is, we ARE animals. But, we are conscious animals with the ability to make informed choices about our behaviour and we aren't solely at the mercy of our instincts. Any man that uses the sort of excuse you described for infidelity should not get married. Men who paint themselves as helpless against the power of their penis and its urges are emotional midgets that no woman deserves to be saddled with.

No, that's a cop-out argument. Men have an animal instinct to lash out in anger and kill, but a rational human being knows how to control themselves. He's using an excuse to cheat. If his wife did the same to him, would he be so willing to forgive and say it's her "animal instincts"?

why not? women do it and the entire world is fine with it. but once a man does it and gives the EXACT same excuse, no one cares and he's automatically a piece of trash

He's just trying to justify his actions. there are no excuses for cheating. People who want to cheat shouldn't be married or in relationships. simple as that.
