How do I get a video file off a sony video camera disk?

What kind of Sony video camera should I get?

(Early happy birthday, next week!) A lot of skateboarders like to videotape themselves and their friends. But Sony makes a wide range of camcorders, from the under-$100 to $150 "Bloggie" series, the next-up "Webbie" series ($150-$250), and Handycams & professional camcorders running into hundreds & thousands of dollars. Sony is also kinda like "Apple" brand gadgets: their prices are a bit higher, feature-for-feature than some other good brands. In the lower price ranges, you might get a better deal with a JVC, Kodak, or Sanyo compact camcorder. Feel free to update your Question (using the "Additional Details" link in the Y!A Action Bar) with your or your parents' budget range for a camcorder, and I or another Yahooligan can give a more detailed answer for you. Since you said "need a new video camera", also let us know if you have/had an older model you've used and what you did or didn't like about it. And if skater videos is important, having a fisheye lens option and decent action shot capability might be good features to save up for.
