How To Format Computer?

How to format computer but keep the newly installed windows?

  • My computer is vista but i have installed windows 7. If I format my computer it will return to windows vista. Is there a way to format my computer but keep windows 7? (I lost the CD that i used to turn it into windows 7)

  • Answer:

If you reformat it the current OS will be lost, it's down to you what put back on there. Vista won't magically pop back up. You'll need a windows 7 cd to reinstall windows 7 after reformating. Consider borwing one from someone you know or pirating it, aslong as you know what your product key is. If you don;t it should be on a sticker on your computer somewhere. If it's not there is software you can download and run to find out what the product key is on a current installation. DO that before you reformat obviously.

Did you upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista or do a fresh install from a blank hard disk? If it was a fresh install, try using System Restore to go back to the earliest checkpoint, then manually delete your data. It's not a pretty way of doing it but an option if you're desperate.

If you format it. You lose both Vista and Windows 7. Your hard drive will not have an OS on it. Why do you want to format?
