How do I develop an app for my taxi company?

• Hi and thank you in advance for answering my query. I own a taxi company and have recently deployed 25 iPads in the cabs of my taxi drivers. They are already using them for navigational purposes and for keeping track of rates which has helped greatly. I am now looking to create an app so that customers are able to reserve a taxi to pick them up from an iPod touch/iPhone/iPad app. I would like the app to not only allow to customer to book the cab but also to be able to notify the driver of the location and time of pickup and also where they are going before they get there. Is there a way to do this with out hiring and expensive company to do this? Would it be easy enough for someone who is pretty good with computers but have never made an app before? What software would I need? How long do you think it would take to make the app? Thank you in advance for any help or answers that people may give. Cheers!

  If you have a Mac you can sign up for a developers account ($99 for a year) and they have software you can install to make and publish apps. If you use this it will probably take you about 2-4 months, it matters if you have a good idea and you know what you want to put in it. The most time consuming is the planning. If you have Windows I am keeping my eyes open for software for that.;) Yes, it will be pretty easy if you have some knowledge. It is not really coding, you drag boxes in and lines of text and stuff like that. You only need to insert coding if you want the app to for example be on a certain encrypted network that produces taxi information.
