Can you walk up a hill both ways?

Went for a 5minute walk up a hill, non-strenuous, at the end my legs started to spasm like crazy. Why?

  • So I went for a 5minute walk up a hill, it truly was a non-strenuous walk. At the end, both of my legs started to spasm and wouldn't stop until I took a seat and took the pressure off them. The following day my calves had cramped up to the point that I couldn't walk. It is now 3 days on and I can walk pretty much normally again but there is a lot of pressure and pain in both of my calf muscles and they are sore to even the slightest of touch. The attempt to massage them proved unbearable. I'm a 22yr old female, 5 foot 3", 55kg, fit, healthy. What's going on?

  • Answer:

Well, clearly, they were screaming in protest! They are not used to doing such a routine! But...I am wondering two things: 1. Do you wear high heels a lot? Over time, your Achilles tendon can shorten by the wearing of high-heeled shoes on a frequent basis. If you normally don't wear flat shoes, or sneakers, and then put a pair on and try to walk uphill, you are bound to have pain, soreness, etc. 2. You may have some slight dehydration and/or potassium deficiency going on. Try to up your consumption of water daily, along with foods that contain potassium, such as :bananas, dried apricots, prunes, raisins, salmon, pumpkin seeds, and lentils, such as navy, lima, kidney and pinto beans.
