Allergic to guinea pigs or not?

Am i allergic to my guinea pigs? itchy and red?

  • I got 2 guinea pigs about 5 months ago. Recently when i hold them i get red spots that are really itchy. Am I allergic to them? Will it pass? What can i use to get rid of the spots? I don't plan on getting rid of the guinea pigs unless i really have to.

  • Answer:

Guinea pigs are popular household pets and also used in laboratory research. Allergic symptoms including rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and asthma have been documented in laboratory animal workers exposed to guinea pigs. Itchy eyes, sneezing, runny nose, persistent cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, a skin rash, and anaphylactic shock are some of the allergy symptoms.

If they're in hay, you may be allergic to the hay. This is very common. Try hydroquarterzone cream or something for the rashes. I doubt it'll pass. Decide if it's bearable or get rid of them I suppose.

You can use claritin allergy meds.
