Don't worry about it,I don't have braces myself but I know quite a few people that do.The thing is you're going to think you look different or your mouth feels different or whatever but really you don't.One of my friends felt paranoid when she got them and felt people were going to look at her awkwardly and she was worried to open her mouth the day after she got them, but she proved herself wrong,no one thought anything different of her.So they are not going to change the way you look at all,you yourself are just going to feel a little paranoid it's natural to. And you'll get used to them in time ;).

Overall, braces may give you a different.. look. But they certainly wont make any of your other features appear bigger. I actually know people who made the whole braces look work for them. Besides, why are you even worrying about this stuff? In the end, when your braces come off, you'll come out looking better :) Its the longrun you should be thinking about.

Braces will change your facial profile for the worse only if premolars are pulled to make room to straighten teeth. Bicuspid extractions is a standard treatment technique used by traditional orthodontists because it creates lots of room fast and is easy to do. But this outdated method has many undesirable effects on the face and mouth. It will make your mouth smaller and your nose will become more prominent (not bigger or smaller) as well as your chin and the area around your mouth will become sunken in (aka dished in). This will cause creases to develop around the mouth area and make you look older. If you have an overjet due to the lower jaw being too far back and creating excess front to back space between the upper and lower front teeth, extractions will make the lower jaw bite even further back increasing the possibility of developing a TMJ disorder. I assume you are using the term "overbite" incorrectly like most people and really mean to say "overjet." An "overbite" to a dentist/orthodontist refers to the overlap of the upper front teeth down over the bottom front teeth (a vertical problem) while an "overjet" refers to the front to back space between these same teeth and is a horizontal problem. The most common cause of excess overjets is a lower jaw that is sitting too far back and this is called a Class II jaw relationship. Since this is a problem involving the jaw structure (and not teeth) this is called a skeletal problem and traditional orthodontists do not know how to treat these problems. Instead they pull perfectly good teeth and shuffle teeth around to disguise the real problem leaving it unchanged or worse. The teeth will look fantastic but the face will suffer and look worse (uglier). The only way to avoid all these problems is to expand the jaws to make them the size they would have been had the jaws grown normally. It makes more sense to expand jaws that are too small to their genetic potential to create room to straighten teeth rather than pull perfectly good teeth and make the mouth shrink down. Crowding almost always means there is not enough room for teeth and this usually means the jaws had not grown enough to accommodate all the teeth. Most traditional orthodontists, but not all, do not believe in expansion of the jaws. They would rather extract teeth and get things done quick and dirty. The only way you can prevent the problems you are worried about is to insist on not having your premolars pulled and to have your jaws expanded. Many traditional orthodontists will tell their patients that they will try not to pull teeth but end up pulling teeth anyway. The reason is similar to trying to fit a size 10 foot into a size 7 shoe. They will tell you that if teeth are not pulled then the front teeth will flare out really badly in order to line things up properly. That is correct but if they expanded the jaws to begin with there will be no flaring. The good news is there are many traditional orthodontists who are now doing expansion as well as using functional appliances.
