Is it so hard to enter Berklee College of Music?

Berklee College of Music or State University/ UCF?

  • I am a second semester high school senior and have a huge decision to make and I am looking for some advice. I have recently been accepted into Berklee College of Music and a wondering whether it would be a good idea. Music is my passion, I play guitar, drums and sing. I am also the front man of my own band MBL Trio (http://www.facebook.com/pages/MBL-Trio/259097987452344) Check it out if you would like. I am hoping to make music my career but I understand it is a very difficult field to go into. I have also been accepted into a variety of other state universities, UCF being my main choice, so I have options. I understand this is a once in a lifetime chance and am wondering if I should take this great opportunity and go for it or play it safe and go to UCF. If a choose Berklee I plan on either studying Music Production and Engineering or Music Business with an emphasis on guitar. If a choose UCF I would plan to study business administration. Also which degree do you think would hold better weight? Do you think I would have more options if I went to a state university?A business degree from a state university or a degree from Berklee? PLEASE HELP!!!! Thank you!

  • Answer:

Berklee is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Weigh that against the cost of the school and the competition for not that many jobs. If you can swing it financially, try Berklee. That is the MIT/CalTech of music schools.
