What jobs can you get with an associates degree in nursing?

Getting an associates degree, then transferring to get a bacherlors in nursing...?

  • Okay, so this could be a dumb question but really confused. I'm currently enrolled in college to get my nursing degree through a community college, and they only have a two year degree program. So I'm going to get my associates degree through them, then transfer to a university to finish up for my RN. However, I'm confused on the classes. For the community college I'm literally only required to take Engl 1010, Comm1120, one Humanities/Fine Art, Psy 203 and Psy 206, and 3 Natural Science classes (Biol 2010, 2020, and 2030), and then the Nursing courses. However, my question is since I'm going to be transferring to a Univisiry I know the require certain classes to graduate and get a degree from them, so will I still have to take those classes to continue working on my RN or will I just have to strictly take nursing classes? Because I rather take all of my general classes first to get them over with, rather then be in my Junior year taking them. Thanks for the help!

  • Answer:

You qualify to sit for your RN certification once you finish your associates degree in nursing. You do not need a bachelors degree to become an RN. Later, if you wish, you can enter an RN to BSN at a university to complete your bachelors degree. Most people want to finish up the degree requirements as soon as possible, but I suppose nothing's stopping you from taking more general education classes at community college if you so desire (either before you enter the nursing program, or after you complete it).
