How can I become a better student in high school?
-
I have a really hard time with school. I struggled a lot my freshman year which caused me to give up on myself. I have a 2.3 gpa 4th quarter of my sophomore year of high school. I've been working hard to get it up from my 1.7 gpa freshman year. Before people give me the "Try harder and get good grades" answer I know. I'm already getting tutored and go in after school for help with my teachers. I really do care about getting my grades up because I know the transition from 8th grade into 9th grade was really really HARD for me because I didn't recieve the proper education in grade school. I went into 9th grade with about as much knowledge as a 7th grader (True story) which caused me to just give up.When I took the PLAN test beginning my 9th grade year I got a composite score of 14 which is HORRIBLE. When I took it fall out my 10th grade year I got a 21 or a 22 which is a pretty big improvement in just a years time. During the summer of 2012 and next summer I plan on retaking some of my 9th grade classes to help with those classes I got C's and D's in. I'm taking the ACT next Saturday as practice and then a couple more times next year so I really do well. I really want to go to LSU because it's my dream school. I've wanted to go to LSU for a really long time and at this point its the only thing that's pushing me to become a better student. LSU's requirements are a 3.0 gpa and a 21 on the ACT. Realistically though I feel like I'm going to end up at Nebraska as a Husker considering it's my homestate and they accept basically anyone in state in. I fear going to Lincoln because it makes me feel like I wasn't good enough to accepted anywhere else. My friends also always bring up how I suck at school which makes me feel really bad. They take honors and AP courses but I don't qualify for them. I recieved 2nd honors for 3rd quarter and it made me feel really really good about myself. The ribbon is still even hanging up in my room lol. How can I get my gpa up to a 3.0? I'm maintaining mostly B's now but I really want to prove to myself that I can be just as good as they are.

Answer:
Ok. I'm a freshman but I know how to maintain an average. I have been maintaining a 90 average so far. Go to school and pay attention in class. Do all the classwork and write down all assignments. Have good friends who are there for you. Once you're home, take an hour to relax. Afterwards, get straight to your homework. Stuck on a question, check your class notes. Asking your parents about a question should be your last resort. When you have a quiz or test coming up, seriously study a small bit everyday. Doing homework is like a way to get your class work and notes information stuck in your head, its practice. All of it is practice for an upcoming test or quiz. Just stay focused and you will definitely do well.
