What are jobs in the non-profit organizations?

What matters more or are they equal while in college? Student organizations or part time jobs?

• I'm currently involved in student organizations but considering dropping all but one next year which isn't related to my major in order to work more hours, do employers care very much about student organization involvement if your involved in something and working?

  Hey there - I'm also in college and facing the same dilemma. My career advisers at college tell me that employers will look for a display that you possess the right skills and mindset to do the job. Low-level, part-time work shows reliability, maturity and time-management but at that level it almost never gives evidence of your intellectual skills. Student organizations can show actual achievements, especially if your organization actually goes out and does something. I chaired my old school council and we got a £2 million contract to build a new cafeteria - and although we were heavily assisted I *hope* it looks better than six months of stacking shelves every Saturday. Student organizations shows activism, self-motivation, determination, entrepreneurship, leadership and the tenacity to use your initiative to strike out on your own. For certain jobs these are great skills, especially in professional sectors or freelance. Most of all though, you have to ask yourself what YOU want. If you keep committing to what you care about you will build your confidence and present real, solid achievements that you can uphold. That builds you as a stronger, more confident person and a far more attractive job applicant to an employer, in my opinion. You have one shot at life, do what you feel you need to do.
