What does the BTEC level 3 extended music audition for the BRIT school require?

  • I'm planning to audition for Post 16 at the BRIT School when I leave secondary school. I'd like to do the BTEC Level 3 extended Diploma in Music, and I was wondering what the audition would require me to do? It says that my standard of playing an instrument and theory needs to be recommended at Grade V. What's that? I've read that it will need me to undertake a theory/listening test and have I'll have to do aural exercises. What are these and what do they include? Also, how can I prepare for them? Thanks:)

  • Answer:

Stay clear from BRIT! Do A Levels then go to a proper, well respected college like Guildhall etc. Yes BRIT produced Jessie J and Adele but who else from the millions of students they've taught?! Places like Guildhall do summer courses and one off days to help with auditions- most big colleges do this, they want you to succeed! Good lucks!

You should have four GCSE grades A*-C including Drama or another Expressive Arts subject, and a keen interest in theatre and performance. As with common professional practice this is by interview and audition. For the audition you must prepare one monologue, song or dance piece of 2 minutes duration learned by heart. You will be invited to spend a day with us when you will join in varied workshops and present your piece so we can assess your suitability for the course.
