Is a cover letter required when applying for a truck driving job?
-
I am helping my father make a resume for a DZ truck driving job (don't know which one yet) and i was just wondering if i should also help him make a cover letter as well. I'm not too sure because my dad does not have a specific company he wants to work for, so I'm assuming he wants to basically apply at any truck driving place available, which makes it hard to create a cover letter because i would have to create one for each hirer which is too much. thanks for the help everyone!!!!

Answer:
No you do not need a cover letter because you need to call what ever company and either request one of thier job applications or just go ahead get one somewhere else and photo copy a blank one and then use that to fill out as an application. Most companies buy standard forms any how so you do an applicaton and a resume because like someone already wrote The company is interested they will give him a call anyway. If he has a good record that is a bonus for him trucking companies love drivers with clean records it looks good to insurance to have some on the payroll. Many companies do drug testing now as a matter of everyday life because of past problems with the industry many years ago. The agents at truck weigh scales are highly trained to spot drug use and abuse and do not hesitate any more to drug test someone they think is under the influence

The main thing most truck driving companys look at is your driving record making sure that you don't have any tickets or anything of the sort and your criminal record making sure that you have not been involved in any crimes. I know at most truck stops they give away pamplets showing what trucking companys are hiring if he is going over the road or something like that. As long as he has a valid CDL A and able to pass a drug test I do not believe you realy need a cover letter. You can apply online to which ever company is hiring. Keep in mine if he does not have a CDL A it may be best to go to a truck driving school and try not to get a CDL A through a company mainly because the company will have you on contract for 1-2 years or what ever.

You should submit a cover letter every time you apply to a position. I would highly recommend seeking professional help with your cover letter, resume, and job search. www.careerchoiceresumes.net offers FREE help to individuals like yourself.

Not normally, and it depends on what position he is applying for, say an executive position would require a cover letter etc.
Bobby
make a general cover letter and then make copies/most of those companies can be applied for on line/try that first/the companies will check him out from their applications and if they are interested they will contact
