Should I pursue being a Flight Attendant or enter Law School instead?
-
I'm graduating from college and am about to enter the real world. But i'm having struggles about my career options. I want two things so badly, i can't decide which path to take. Should I be a flight attendant, with high salary, and with traveling privileges (something i have always wanted-to travel), or should i take up law school instead? I mean, lawyers are respected and have got voices more heard than most people. And they can also get paid highly, (IF they are good lawyers of course so that money part is still uncertain for me.), and lawyers get to travel too right? please don't tell me to follow my heart i'm tired of hearing that. If i followed my heart i'd split myself into two and take both. So right now, i need your opinions on which career path is wise for me to choose?

Answer:
You usually see, Doctor & Lawyer as the toss up since both require brain power, long hours, internships, exams and certifications to work. To put Flight Attendant with Lawyer... Go Flight Attendant. You don't have a good perspective on lawyers. A Lawyer is a very detail oriented and for the most part boring job unless you enjoy combing through law books and old court cases looking for angles to work. What you see on TV on your cop shows and criminal drama's is only about 5% of their job if you are a defense or prosecutor. The rest is sitting in a room, going through paper work, working long hours. Being a tax or real estate lawyer is even more paperwork. Also, lawyer's typically don't travel for work. You take the bar in the state you intend to work in and each state's bar is different and they are not easy exams.

When it comes to flight attendants, there's two things you need to know: 1) The competition is ridiculously steep. A colleague of mine's best friend got hired by Air Canada a few years ago and she was one candidate out of 30,000 applicants. For about 60-100 positions. And that was over one year only. 2) Because of the price of oil, most airlines are cutting costs. That means your future job. Law school: 1) There are already too many lawyers in North America, to the point that several of them graduate law school only to end up as paralegals because that's all there's left. They have some of the highest debt load too. 2) Some of the points brought up re: law school elsewhere: http://blog.penelopetrunk.com/2007/05/16/five-myths-about-going-to-law-school/ Things to think about. You can find pro arguments for law school in most places.

For flight attendant; there is a limit of period that one can stays in the job. For lawyer; there is no limit on age. As such, your option is to enter Law School.

There are 45,000 law school graduates each year and 30,000 law job openings each year.
