I want to learn to play guitar.

I want to learn to play the guitar but I just can't do it?

  • Hey, so my parents bought me an acoustic guitar and an electric guitar. I want to learn how to play them but everytime I pick up one of them and try to play something I find on the internet I just end up giving up and getting really frustrated. My parents want me to learn how to play it but everytime I do I just feel like I'm incapable of playing it. I've tried searching on YouTube for some guitar lessons on different songs but they all seem out of my league even though they say they are beginner songs. I'm afraid to ask my parents to get me lessons because I can see myself not being able to do it, giving up and wasting my parents money. Does anyone have any suggestions on learning how to play?

Well, I personally feel it's a lot easier to make up your own songs than to play things other people wrote... try to imagine what you want to do and then fumble aroud until you get it to happen... then write it down or record it. You can even write words if you like. That's all I ever do... I don't like trying to play stuff other people already wrote, it's too much trouble and it's no fun.

Yeah, you're wasting your time. Why not turn off the computer and learn to play the guitar? Your parents have, perhaps rather stupidly, bought you not one but two guitars. Undortunately, you have to learn to play the guitar, you have to make an effort yourself before you can play, even the rubbish on the Internet!

I highly recommend jamplay.com. I just started using it and it is pretty amazing. Definitely the best on the web. Also it helps to look up tips and tricks on the various websites out there. I just found a new tips website at pickingtips.com (links below)

We all have things we're good at, and things we are not. I'm with you, I couldn't play an instrument, or sing, if my life depended on it. But I'm good at other things. Find what you can do, and do that! You'll be a lot happier.

You need one-to-one. Doesn't have to be a formal lesson, just get with someone who knows a little bit more than you to show you some things. You need another person; the net can't show you where you're going wrong. Don't give up.

First off you should play the guitar because you love it not because you feel obligated to play. I would recommend buying an electronic tuner for your guitar if you don't have one it makes learning alot easier when the guitar is in tune and sounds good. Try martysongs on youtube he is awsome. And if you can take lessons take them. Learning from a good teacher will help alot i have been taking lessons for 3 years. My technique is far better than that of my friends who didn't take lessons. By taking lessons you will get passed the learning curve realy fast and things will become easier. Remember guitar playing is hard and takes a lot of practice but can be extremely enjoyable. Good luck and don't give up
