How to become an architecture?

Can I become a Construction Project manager with Bachelors in Architecture?

  • As some of you might know Architecture is a 5 year degree (3 years bachelors + 2 years Masters + Work Experience + Exams to become registered) I'm finishing my Bachelors Degree this year but I'm starting to think that Architecture isn't for me and I'm wanting to start a career in Project Management. I can start my Post-Grad Studies in Project Management but my concern is if I can get a job as a constrution project manager with only a bachelors degree in Architecture and master's project management? or do I need to complete a bachelors in Engineering first? or finish my Architecture Degree... or is there any other paths for me?

  • Answer:

Depends on the country you're working in. If you're in North America, then yes, it's possible to reach that point with merely a degree in Architecture. If you're in the Middle East (where most of the mega projects are being executed at the moment), then you need to be a civil engineer. What companies value more than a degree is experience. If you can get experience doing some of the basics of project work like construction inspection, expediting, etc then it is possible for you to work up to project management for certain type of projects. Those would probably be commercial type projects and not heavy industrial type projects.
