What does Easter Sunday mean to you?

Can you believe what I saw on the altar on Easter Sunday?

  • My family was all darled up in their finery and in glancing at the altar what do we see but,.... yellow mums! Can you imagine, mums on Easter Sunday! I expected the priest to come out dressed as Tom Turkey and wish us all a Happy Thanksgiving. Everyone knows that lilies mean that Jesus has risen! It didn't seem like Easter at all. We were very disappointed. Do you think Jesus rose from the dead, even if lilies were not on the altar? St. Joseph must be spinning in his grave. What's in your cranium??? I apologize for my ignorance here, but......... What the hell do mums have to do with anything? Or is this just making fun of someone else....? WTF?

Chrysanthemums (which I think you are alluding to) are the symbol of All Souls'. Greenery of any kind can be symbolic of Easter ("now the green blade riseth from the buried grain"). But what on earth are you doing with flowers on the altar? I generally disapprove of large floral arrangements in churches at all, but they definitely should not be on or anywhere near the altar! Does your priest also use the altar for table-tennis, perhaps? Maybe he stretches out and has a wee lie-down during the Gloria? Maybe he puts little lace doilies under his vases of flowers?

nothing like lilies one Easter Sunday-even I know that! for a second i was like 'MUMS'? LIKE THE BRITISH WAY OF SAYING MOM? LOLOL nearly died laughing....anyhow...yes that's disappointing. :( at least we had lilies. HAPPY EASTER!
