Why do Christians believe in a kind God?

Why do christians speak to atheists as if we dont know god, most of us used to be very devout christians?

• the fact is most atheists used to be theists because just like you we were indoctrinated to a greater or lesser extent with the same dogma that has sucked you in. we know all the bible stories from our childhood we know how protective people can be over their delusion instilled from birth we know what it is like to have a great fear of going to hell we know exactly what it is like to believe in god we know exactly how it feels to sincerely pray to god we know what it is like to be a god fearing christian we know what it is like to put 100% faith in something that has no evidence we havent taken our descision to stop believing in god lightly, or quickly we are well read and deep thinkers who understand what we are rejecting we are not evil and sin no more than the average christian, it is because we understand how christianity works that we reject it so stop trying to demonise atheists, we are perfectly decent people who know exactly what we are talking about. we have been where you are, we know you now i expect the usual response that christians give to this conundrum.... "If you had been a REAL christian you would never have left" well, i guess there is no arguing with that kind of elitist blinkering i can assure you that many atheists WERE JUST AS BRAINWASHED AS YOU WERE once upon a time i for one was certain of god for over 30 years and even now i stay pray as an atheist, yes i do that is the power of indoctrination, i still pray to a god that i now know isnt real

  Sorry. All you've proved is that you have not been where I am, and that you don't know me at all. You say you used to be a theist. Guess what? I'm not a theist. I'm a Christian. The fact that you don't know the difference between the two camps is pretty solid evidence all by itself that you were never in my camp. You say you know all the bible stories from your childhood, which is not to know them at all. They were actually written for adults, and one must read them and contemplate them as an adult to truly deal with them. You say you know what it is like to put 100% faith in something that has no evidence. I don't. I accepted Jesus because a church elder asked me, "Did Jesus rise from the dead, or didn't He?" Having deeply considered the HISTORICAL EVIDENCE, I replied that He had. The elder then asked me what I was going to do about it, and that was the beginning of a relationship that has lasted almost 40 years, with a lot of EVIDENCE picked up along the way through prayer. I feel sorry for you that you lived so long in self-deception, but your story is not mine, nor do I care how devout you were. Devoutness is nothing; meeting Jesus is everything.
